9 tips to save money on your auto insurance

Did you know that it’s possible to save money on your auto insurance?

As brokers, we can shop the market to find the best rates for you. Contact us to discuss your policy and how we can help.

Here are some tips for reducing your insurance payment:

  1. Bundle: Bundling your home and auto insurance can reduce your total insurance payments.
  2. Increase your deductible: Deductibles and premiums are directly linked to each other. Raising your
    deductible will decrease your premium.
  3. Choose an electric or hybrid vehicle: Greener vehicles can often save you more on your insurance
premium (psst… there are federal rebates for purchasing or leasing an eligible zero-emission vehicle.)
  4. Drive less: If your distance to work has decreased since your last renewal, or, if you generally don’t
rack up your kilometers, you could save a nice chunk of change.
  5. Keep a clean driving record: Adding traffic tickets on your record or being involved in an at-fault
accident can raise your premium at renewal time.
  6. Invest in driver training: Insurance is more expensive for new and young drivers, so investing in
driver training can help reduce insurance costs.
  7. Winter tire discount: Your insurer may offer a discount if you install Transport Canada certified
winter tires every year. They will need to have the alpine symbol, and must be on your vehicle from at
least December 1st to March 31st, and removed for the summer. Check with your broker for more
    details.
  8. Pay your premiums in full: If you’re in a position where you can comfortably pay your premium in full
once each year, you may save money by avoiding administrative fees.
  9. Review your policy annually: Stay on top of your policy to ensure no costs are incurred year over
    year.
