Steers’ Guide to Camping for May 24th

With May 24th coming up this weekend, many of us have camping on the brain. And with a bit of imagination and a sense of adventure, you can have a magical May 24th weekend.

Whether you choose to pitch a tent in the living room or to set up a makeshift campsite in your backyard, an at-home camping adventure could be just the thing that’s needed to lift your spirits and do something unique and memorable with your family.

We’ve put together some fun and creative ideas for you to create the perfect trip, right in your family room.

Living Room Tents

Let’s start with shelter.

Get creative! It’s blanket fort rules. You might find your kids are even better at this than you. No kids? No problem. Create a romantic glamping night in your living room.

What do you need?

  • Blankets, pillows, sheets
  • Clothespins, binder clips, or chip clips
  • String, wire, or yarn
  • Big books or other non-breakable items

Check out some tips here.

Bring the Sky Inside

A simple colander and a light can create a magical starry sky in your living room. Tea lights. Christmas lights. Use anything you have to create that camping ambiance.

Feeling crafty? Follow the inspiration at Imagine Childhood and make star flashlights. It’s pretty cool.

S’mores

Camping isn’t camping without S’mores! You don’t need a big fire. Here are a couple of awesome ideas. One for the kids, and one for the grown-up kids.

S’mores Dip and Charcuterie Board

Feeling fancy? Try this!

For the dip, all you need is a skillet, chocolate chips, and marshmallows. Dinner at the Zoo has all the instructions.

The Charcuterie Board can be anything! Traditional graham crackers, of course. But you could also try vanilla wafers, strawberries, apple slices, Oreo cookies, gingersnaps, and pretzels! Find inspiration here

S’mores in a Terracotta Pot

Here’s what you’ll need.  A terracotta pot, charcoal, lighter, foil to line the pot, a stick, and S’mores ingredients, of course. Check out the tutorial from Nest of Posies

Facetime Campfire

What’s camping without friends. There are plenty of fun ways to connect with your camping-loving friends. Facetime, Google Meet, Zoom, Houseparty. Invite some friends for a virtual campfire. Need music? Make sure you invite that one friend who plays guitar! Or take in a show. Steers is a proud sponsor of Iceberg Alley and they’ve got some killer online shows.

Have a safe and happy May 24th weekend!
