Clean Gutters and Downspouts

Cleaning the debris from your gutters is important this time of year.
Tip: Installing gutter guards will make this a lot easier every year.

Trim Trees

A light trimming will help ensure that flying debris won’t damage your home or get caught in your gutters.
Tip: A long handled trimmer will help avoid having to use a ladder.

Weather-strip All Doors and Windows

This is helpful for avoiding drafts and saving on your heating bill every month, regardless of the type of heat you use.
Tip: Make sure to measure twice before cutting.

Drain Garden Hoses

Start by turning off any water pipes that lead outside. Drain and disconnect your garden hose, and make sure to store it safely indoors for the winter.
Tip: Wrap internal water pipes close to the exterior walls with thermal tape

Rake Leaves

It’s a good idea to routinely rake or blow the leaves off your lawn. Keep your grass healthy by avoiding leaves compacting.
Tip: Use a mulching mower

Check and Replace Batteries in All Detectors

It’s very important to check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. A routine test of the alarms will help you know if they need changing.
Tip: Set a reminder to check monthly.

Clean Dryer Vents

Making sure the exterior dryer vents are clean can both make your dryer more efficient and help prevent fires.
Tip: Clean the dryer trap after each use.
