Drowsy Driving Prevention Tips

Did you know: you are three times more likely to be in a car accident if you are fatigued. That’s huge! Drowsy Driving Prevention Week reminds us to keep fatigued driving in check. Here are some quick things to consider if you think you might be too tired to drive:

  • Don’t drive if you have been awake for more than 18 hours.
  • On long drives, make sure you eat good food (not just chips & pop!) and take a break every 2 hours.
  • Avoid driving during the times of day that you are most tired. For most people, that is between 2:00 am and 7:00 am.
  • Keep your mind alert with podcasts or up-tempo music.
  • If you’re feeling tired, find a safe place to stop and even take a nap.
  • Defensive Driving: Be prepared to prevent collisions in spite of the actions of others – including drivers around you who may be drowsy.
